Whiterocks Beach, Portrush has been named Northern Ireland’s Top Beach Spot in a search by leading local convenience brand Centra, supported by Tourism NI.

The stunning beach, situated off the Causeway Coastal Route in Co. Antrim, beat off competition from other popular locations including Portstewart Strand and Benone beach in Co. Londonderry and Co. Down’s Murlough Beach and Helen’s Bay.

The online search gave people across Northern Ireland the chance to share their favourite beaches across the province. With a number of award winning beaches, Northern Ireland is surrounded by beautiful coastline which boasts impressive stretches of golden sand.

Centra’s Brand Manager, Nikki McDowell said: “Centra is delighted to announce Whiterocks Beach, Portrush as its Top Beach Spot in Northern Ireland. This was a really popular choice among our voters and is a fantastic example of the impressive coastline we have on our doorstep. As a beach spot, Whiterocks is an exciting and fun location, offering so much throughout the year for families, water sports enthusiasts, walkers, horse riders and more.

“With the support of Tourism NI, as well as our 80 independent retailers across every region, we will continue the search for more Centra Top Spots and encourage everyone to get involved by sharing what they love about Northern Ireland,” she added.

Pauline Gormley, Tourism NI’s Destination PR Officer said: “As one of Northern Ireland’s Blue Flag Beach 2015 award winners, it is no surprise that the ever popular Whiterocks Beach, Portrush has been named Centra’s Top Beach Spot.

“With so many stunning outdoor locations across Northern Ireland this autumn, we look forward to finding out what people like most, as we continue to support Centra’s Top Spots,” she added.

Two lucky winners of the Centra Top Picnic Spot search were selected at random, winning a £200 Hastings Hotel voucher and a £50 Centra voucher each.

The search for Centra’s Top Spots will continue into the festive season. To keep up to date and for your chance to win simply go to www.facebook.com/CentraNI and like the page or visit www.centra.co.uk/topspots.
