Hobbycraft, the UK’s largest arts and crafts retailer, is pleased to announce the expansion into Northern Ireland with the opening of the brand new store in Newtownabbey Belfast.

The arts and crafts store, located at Unit 5b Longwood Retail Park, has created 18 new jobs in the area, following 100 applications for the roles

Ellis, Store Manager of Hobbycraft Newtownabbey, Belfast, says: “Our new store is packed with crafting materials to suit all ages and abilities, and beginners through to experienced crafters are all welcome to pop into the store and chat to our creative colleagues. They’re always happy to share their knowledge, tips and tricks”.

The store was officially opened on Wednesday 30th October at 9:00am whilst the grand store opening event took place on Saturday 2nd November at 9:00am, attended by the Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Alderman John Smyth. With queues forming from 8am and the first 100 customers gifted with a free goody bag, the Hobbycraft Newtownabbey, Belfast store opening was hugely successful. Customers were also able to enjoy free face painting and a decopatch workshop on the day.

One of the new team members Irene, who specialises in custom crafting, is delighted with her new position in the store, commenting: “I can’t wait to get started and to be part of the Hobbycraft Newtownabbey, Belfast team. I love crafting in my spare time and look forward to sharing my knowledge with customers.”

Hobbycraft also introduces Belfast to revolutionary digital craft techniques with the dedicated ‘Custom Crafting’ area in store, a new inspirational crafting area that is designed to inspire shoppers as well as encourage them to try out products and crafting techniques.

As the personalisation phenomenon continues, with Hobbycraft seeing over 10,000 searches per month of the term ‘personalisation’, this new area has a specific focus on products that support the trend. A main area of focus is on digital cutting and includes Cricut Machines, tools and vinyl products.

The Cricut machines allow users to precisely cut, write and score, and can be used with a wide range of materials (from paper to leather, balsa wood to cotton fabric) making them the perfect partner for any avid crafter. The Cricut machines are used in conjunction with Cricut’s free Design Space app, which features thousands of ready to make projects to choose from, as well as enabling users the ability to upload and create their very own designs.
