The screening will take place this Sunday (27 July) between 6pm and 930pm, organised as part of the Belfast Pride Festival. Access to the event will be by ticket only and tickets can be obtained through the Belfast Pride website.
Belfast Lord Mayor Nichola Mallon is delighted to open up the grounds of City Hall for the event, and wants to encourage as many people as possible to book a ticket and enjoy the show.
She said: “A ‘City of Enjoyment’ is one of my key themes as Lord Mayor. City Hall belongs to the people of Belfast and I plan on hosting more events like this, welcoming more people into the grounds of City Hall to enjoy themselves and have fun.”
“Mamma Mia” is a feel good film that everyone can enjoy, and the “Big Screen” offers a unique viewing experience right at the heart of the city centre,” she added.
Chair of the Belfast Pride Festival, Seán Ó Néill said: “Belfast Pride is happy to welcome everyone to the City Hall lawns to have some sing-along fun under the Pride umbrella – Pride is open to everyone and we want to see people coming in to the city to enjoy all that Belfast has to offer. We aren’t promising Greek island weather but the atmosphere promises to be incredible.”
The screening also marks the 40th anniversary of ABBA’s formation, and fans young and old can celebrate this special milestone by enjoying many of the bands much loved songs that feature in “Mamma Mia”.
Alcohol is not permitted at this event and children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Should anyone leave the site, they may not be able to re-enter; this will be at the discretion of stewards during the event and may be dependent on the site reaching capacity.
