The Exciting News from Deanes You’ve Been Waiting For: Mr Deanes Bistro Bar and Social to Open on Howard Street

Belfast’s culinary scene is set for a thrilling addition this month as Mr Deanes Bistro Bar and Social opens its doors on Friday, May 31st. Located in the vibrant space formerly known as Love Fish and Deanes Epic on Howard Street, this new 90-seater restaurant promises a delightful blend of classic and contemporary dining experiences.

A New Chapter in Deanes’ Legacy

Michael Deane, the renowned restaurateur, is at the helm of this exciting new venture. The extensive redesign of the space includes a stylish long bar that seamlessly connects the bistro with the newly imagined social area, Mr Deanes Social. This venue will offer an a la carte menu for lunch and dinner, featuring many of Deanes’ beloved classics, along with snacks and a wide selection of drinks.

Michael Deane shared his enthusiasm about the new opening: “I’m very invigorated for the launch of MrDeanes. Our new concept harnesses much of what we’ve been well known for over the 27 years we’ve been in business in the city. There will be a nod to our legacy operations from Deanes Brasserie, Deanes Deli, and Love Fish. I firmly believe it will excite our existing loyal customers as well as attract new diners to Deanes. In terms of the business, my overall aim is to underpin sustainability and secure jobs going forward.”

A Commitment to Excellence

The restaurant will be open from Tuesday to Saturday, serving lunch and dinner in a setting that reflects Michael Deane’s commitment to high standards. “The restaurant will consistently serve top-quality ingredients, skilfully cooked as well as an extensive selection of drinks, in fresh, contemporary surroundings- That’s what we’ve set out to do,” Michael added.

Live music will enhance the ambiance in the Bar/Social area on various nights, and this versatile space will also be available for private hire, making it a perfect venue for events and gatherings.

Tribute to a Legacy

The name of the new restaurant, Mr Deanes, is a heartfelt tribute to Michael’s late father, Ted Deane, who played a significant role in supporting Michael throughout his career. Ted Deane was a familiar figure to many staff members, often seen addressing electrical and engineering issues across the restaurants. This personal touch adds a layer of warmth and history to the new establishment.

Expansion and Refresh of Deanes Meat Locker

In addition to the launch of Mr Deanes Bistro Bar and Social, another exciting development is on the horizon for Deanes Meat Locker. Starting in June, the Meat Locker will pause service for three weeks to undergo a refresh and expansion, enhancing customer capacity and ensuring that the restaurant continues to offer a top-tier dining experience.

A Long-Standing Legacy in Belfast

Michael Deane has been a pillar of Belfast’s restaurant scene for the past 27 years, holding a Michelin Star for an impressive 25 of those years. Recently named the Mentor of the Year at the Michelin Guide event for Great Britain and Ireland, Michael’s commitment to excellence is well recognized. Deanes at Queens in the University Area also proudly holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand.
