Best Food & Drink in Belfast: Restaurants, Cafés and Pubs Worth the Trip

Belfast eats well if you pick a neighbourhood and a mood first. This hub orients you — districts, markets, food-led pubs — while the living list of places we cover sits in the LoveBelfast restaurants directory. Use both together with the deeper Belfast food scene guide.

Browse the restaurants directory — alphabetical list with cuisine filters, ratings when we have them, and “Awaiting review” until LoveBelfast has been. New entries land there first (including places like 2Taps as the desk adds them).

Openings move fast. Treat this page as orientation; check the directory, LoveBelfast Food & Drink coverage, and each venue’s own booking page before you turn up.

LoveBelfast restaurants directory

The restaurants directory is the featured tool on this hub: one place for venue pages with our photo, review, Instagram and contact details when ready. Filter by cuisine when you know the mood; open a single when you want the practical block (address, phone, website).

This Food & Drink hub does not invent a top-ten or price list. It tells you where to look in the city — then sends you into the directory for which rooms we are tracking.

How to use this guide

Start with where you already are — city centre and Cathedral Quarter for density, Titanic / waterfront for tourist days, markets for cash-and-carry browsing, south Belfast strips for locals’ midweek habits. Budget bands shift by room and night; we do not invent £ here. Book ahead for busy Friday and Saturday rooms; walk-ins work better midweek and at markets.

For the wider city day, pair food with things to do in Belfast. For nights that lean drink-first, use the nightlife hub — this page stays food-first.

City centre and Cathedral Quarter

This is the densest eat-and-drink grid: alleys off Commercial Court and Hill Street, Donegall Street and the MAC end, plus the Great Victoria Street / City Hall edge for landmark pubs with kitchens. Expect a mix of seafood rooms, modern Irish, Italian and gastropub plates — the same streets that feed into live sessions and late bars.

Neighbourhood context: Cathedral Quarter guide. Then jump to the directory (try cuisine filters) for LoveBelfast entries in that zone. Pub rooms with proper food also sit on the nightlife guide and Belfast pubs guide — choose by hunger, not by a ranking we invent.

Titanic and the waterfront

Titanic Quarter stacks visitor days with hotels, arena nights and waterfront dining. Useful when Giants or a cruise day puts you on Queens Quay and you want food without a long city-centre hop. District orientation: Titanic Quarter. Cross-check the restaurants directory for waterfront and nearby rooms as entries grow.

Markets and casual

St George’s Market is the Saturday (and Friday / Sunday) casual default — free entry, stalls under one Victorian roof, food you eat standing up and food you take home. Hours and quiet-hour detail live on that hub; don’t invent a stall menu here.

Street food, cafés and lunch rooms fill the gaps between market days. Use the directory plus LoveBelfast Food posts for what’s newly open rather than a frozen list.

Pubs with proper food

Some Belfast pubs are drink rooms that happen to toast a sandwich; others run proper kitchens — seafood, roasts, gastropub plates. For historic city-centre rooms and live-music pubs, start with the nightlife and pubs guides above, then decide whether the night is food-led or session-led. Food-first nights belong here and in the directory; late-club energy belongs on the nightlife hub.

How LoveBelfast covers openings

We file restaurant, café and hotel-food openings as they land — English editorial, not press-release paste. New venues are added to the restaurants directory (rating and review can stay “Awaiting review” until we visit). The Food & Drink category carries the news write-ups; tickets and festival food moments sit on What’s On when they are dated events.

Prefer this page + the directory for planning. Older “best of” list posts on the site are superseded here.

Open the directory, pick a district, book if you need to, and eat what’s actually open this week — Belfast rewards people who check twice.
