Review : We Are Scientists – Limelight Belfast

We Are Scientists

Opening their scintillating set by greeting the audience with ‘Hello, Belfastulites!’, it was clear that the dynamic duo behind New York based We Are Scientists (Keith Murray and Chris Cain) were going to have chemistry with the crowd attending their debut album gig on Friday 11th May.

Megaplex, the band’s seventh studio album, still carries the same rock-pop power we’re used to hearing, but a bit more refined. It is fair to say that We Are Scientists now comes with added synths, and synchronisation. If you weren’t there for the music, you could have easily enjoyed the comedy comradery between the pair, with intervals of impromptu dancing.

We Are Scientists

Treating us to ‘Heart Is A Weapon’, we experienced a mellow moment half way through the show in amongst more unruly old favourites. Commending Northern Ireland for its ‘no problem’ attitude in comparison to other countries they’d toured, it is apparent that not only have We Are Scientists grown up – but so has their fanbase, and what better way to showcase their modern Megaplex album than in the forward-thinking folds of Belfast’s Limelight.
