The Velveteen Rabbit at the Lyric Theatre – A Heartwarming Tale Brought to Life

The Lyric Theatre’s adaptation of The Velveteen Rabbit is a beautifully touching production that captures the essence of childhood love, imagination, and the magic of believing. Having read the book with my daughter before the show, it was a delight to see how the story transitioned from page to stage, keeping its timeless charm while adding a theatrical twist to the beloved classic.

At its heart, The Velveteen Rabbit is about the power of love—how the deep bond between a child and a toy can make something “real.” The production stayed true to this message, bringing the story to life with warmth, creativity, and emotion. Watching the rabbit’s journey unfold—from a cherished plaything to something truly alive—was a touching experience. The way the play interpreted the moment when the bunny becomes real, hopping up to the house to say goodbye to the boy and the Jack-in-the-Box, was especially moving.

The performances were wonderful, with the bunny naturally stealing the show. The Jack-in-the-Box also stood out as a fantastic character, adding charm and energy to the performance. Every character played their role beautifully, making the world of The Velveteen Rabbit feel immersive and magical.

Despite the show running for two hours, it never felt long—the pacing was engaging, and the storytelling kept both children and adults captivated throughout. My daughter was completely enchanted, and it was a joy to watch her reaction as she took in the story.

Overall, The Velveteen Rabbit at the Lyric Theatre is a heartwarming experience that reminds us all of the power of childhood imagination and the simple beauty of unconditional love. A must-see for families, young and old!
