Irish Game Fair Adds New Angles
The Irish Game Fair & Flavour Fine Food Festival, the Province’s largest annual celebration of country sports, lifestyles and heritage, returns to Shanes Castle, Antrim, on Saturday 28th & Sunday 29th June to celebrate all things ‘country.’
The event that annually attracts tens of thousands of visitors already boasts a totally unrivalled showcase of huntin’ shootin’ and fishin’ sports and country lifestyles, set in a stunning Lough-shore location.
Always a great family event for those who live, work or play in the Irish countryside, the 2014 Fair is shaping up to be more special than ever before.
This year the Fair introduces a new Northern Ireland Angling Show, and new attractions of medieval jousting and a Viking encampment, in addition to the popular Flavour Fine Food Festival introduced last year.
Looking forward to the high profile angling focus in June, Great Game Fairs Director Albert Titterington said, “Show goers will be spoilt for choice with the entertainment offering. In the main arenathere will be a rich mix of rural, country sports and living history spectacles including gundog demonstrations, and the castle’s ruins is the perfect setting to enjoy historical re-enactments. The food festival provides the chance to savour the flavours of the countryside and is part of our ever-expanding tented trade village that offers plenty of wares to peruse.
“Our Game Fairs showcase country pastimes, conservation and the rural way of life, including spectacular canine and shooting competitions. Every year we introduce new attractions and themes and this year is no exception. These latest additions support our ethos of promoting country pursuits to the young and adds further weight to now annual competitions launched last year in association with the scouting movement, plus a plethora of family-friendly participative activities including junior air rifle shooting, archery and the popular Living History Encampment.“
Antrim Borough Council and the Northern Ireland Tourist Board are once again supporting The 2014 Irish Game Fair at Shanes Castle, demonstrating their faith in angling and country pursuits as important economic drivers for the region.
