The Stena Line Belfast Giants lost on Saturday against the Braehead Clan in Glasgow, with the Scottish side gaining the additional point with a 1-0 penalty shots win in Challenge Cup Group A.
Playing their second game in as many nights, the Giants raced into a 2-0 lead thanks to Evan Cheverie and Ray Sawada – however they gave up their lead with two goals on either side of the first intermission by Neil Trimm and Chris Frank.

Indeed, it was the home side who took advantage of their momentum and at 41:23, Derek Roehl gave the Clan a 3-2 lead in front of a noisy sold out crowd packed into the Braehead Arena.
The visitors looked to be heading for a regulation loss and with only seconds remaining and Stephen Murphy pulled for the extra attacker, Robby Sandrock hammered the puck home to tie the game at 3-3.
The game headed into overtime and, with no score after 5 minutes, penalty shots were needed to separate the two sides. Despite Stephen Murphy denying Braehead’s opening two shots, it was Derek Roehl who gave the hosts an opening win of the season and gave them the full two points, with the Giants picking up one.
The Stena Line Belfast Giants now travel to Edinburgh tonight for their third game in-a-row to face the Capitals in Challenge Cup Group A action.
