This Christmas the Stena Line Belfast Giants have once again teamed up with the Welcome Organisation that will see a clothing drive held to support the homeless people of Belfast over the Christmas period. The clothing drive will be held at the Giants home game this Friday, 19th December against the Coventry Blaze and the Welcome Organisation have asked that fans, like last year, generously bring and donate some or all of the following items:
– New Socks
– New Underwear
– Gloves, Hats & Sleeping Bags of a good condition
– Any other items of used clothing in good condition
The partnership has been ongoing for well over a year and indeed, the Giants very own Colin Shields and others have volunteered their time with The Welcome Organisation and have helped to raise the awareness of homelessness in Belfast.
The Welcome Organisation has been working in Belfast for the last 18 years to address the needs of people who are homeless or rough sleeping in the city and aim to support people in making the move off the street, progressing towards independent living and alleviating isolation the trauma of homelessness— providing a sense of belonging and community.
Sandra Moore from The Welcome Organisation on this year’s clothing drive:
“We are so excited to have the support of our very own Belfast Giants for another year. I really appreciate the support of the Giants and their fans, who are making a real difference in organising this fantastic clothing drive.”
Mark Brooks – Marketing Manager of the Stena Line Belfast Giants:
“With Homelessness a huge issue right here in Belfast – it is great to have the opportunity to work with The Welcome Organisation for another year. Last year’s support and donations was truly overwhelming and I hope this year’s clothing drive can yet again make a difference leading up to Christmas.”
