Co-Ownership, a non-profit organisation that provides shared ownership housing, gave community groups across Northern Ireland the opportunity to apply to their Community Fund to receive up to £15,000 for projects to help regenerate, rebuild and revitalise neighbourhoods and communities.

One of the successful applicants was Street Soccer NI, who work with disadvantaged groups and use football as a platform to engage with people, providing support with needs such as housing and employment.

The funds received from Co-Ownership will be used to support a Homeless Soccer 6 Nations Cup taking place during Homeless Awareness Week, and will see teams from Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland, England, Scotland and Wales with a World Select team made up of Refugees currently residing in Northern Ireland.

Mark Graham, Chief Executive of Co-Ownership said of the sponsorship;

“Co-Ownership funds have provided significant help in communities, for three years we have seen real impact for community groups, partnerships and voluntary organisations. As a result of the tremendous response, we increased this year’s fund to even further support the meaningful work of communities across Northern Ireland.”

Justin McMinn from Street Soccer NI, said:

“Street Soccer NI is now in the ninth year, the community group which aims to promote a positive change to disadvantages and marginalised groups in society uses football as a way to make real change in people’s lives. Organisations like Co-Ownership enable us to continue our work that is proven to make a real difference to some of the most vulnerable in our communities.”
