Few things go better together than coffee and whiskey but is there a way to improve on this perfect pairing?
All this month, Powers Irish Whiskey, which is owned by drinks company Dillon Bass in Northern Ireland, has been on a mission to find out.
The brand has challenged at home enthusiasts, bartenders and baristas to create their own take on the Powers Irish Coffee for the chance to win over £500 worth of artisan indulgences.
With less than a week left to enter, Powers Irish Whiskey is reminding Northern Ireland coffee buffs and whiskey lovers to try their hand at perfecting the classic Irish Coffee.
Sarah Harvey, brand manager for Powers Irish Whiskey in Northern Ireland said: “The traditional Irish Coffee contains just four things: Irish whiskey, sugar, coffee and cream. We’ve been asking people what will they add, swap, or change to improve on the perfect pairing of Powers Irish Whiskey and coffee.
“It has been great to see the different entries come in and learn how people at home, bartenders and baristas across Northern Ireland are channelling their creativity to develop a new twist on the classic Powers Irish Coffee.
“We can’t wait to see what the final entries in the Powers Irish Coffee challenge will uncover this week.”
Joe Magowan, Irish Whiskey ambassador for Dillon Bass added: “They say you can’t improve on perfection. We’re not so sure. Rules were made to be broken after all. And whilst tradition is important, this challenge is proving that there’s always room for a fresh take.”
Entrants will have the chance to win one of three luxurious hampers packed with over £500 of artisan indulgences, with prizes awarded to the best at-home enthusiast, bartender and barista. The prize package includes a Nespresso coffee machine, a bottle of Powers Gold Label and a hand-picked selection of local artisan products and produce. The winning bartender and barista entries will also receive extra Powers’ swag and luxury treats for their team.
Ten finalists will win a bottle of Powers Gold Label, two highly coveted Powers Irish Coffee glasses, and a selection of exclusive Powers merchandise.
Entries will be judged and shortlisted by the Powers Whiskey NI team. Entries will be judged on the originality of the recipe idea; execution of the idea; presentation; and the likely customer appeal of the recipe.
