Anywhere in the world at your fingertips with new App
The chance to explore the sites, tastes and sounds of the world from the comfort of your own home is now a reality thanks to a new app launched today by Radius Housing.
The ‘Where in the World’ experience will bring a range of countries to life, as well as sharing information about the local history, cuisine, lifestyle and customs of places right across the globe. The sunny Caribbean, the sights of India or historic Romania, the world really is your oyster. For those more interested in visiting places closer to home, you can explore the 360 degree photographs that include Dungannon and Coleraine or complete the walking trails included the Radius Rangers App and follow a clue based guided walk of Newry and Belfast.
Radius Housing developed the new experience along with Brilliant Trails, as well as support from a range of cultural organisations and individuals, to enable people to find out more about the wide range of cultures of those who now live in Northern Ireland and who represent the diversity of the society we all share. The App also aims to encourage increased community engagement, and allow for ‘virtual visits’ across the globe at a time when travel restrictions remain in place.
The Radius Rangers App is supported by the NI Executive as part of the T:buc Strategy and Programme for Government ‘Housing for All’ Shared Housing Programme. The Where in the World Experience includes a range of activities and augmented reality experiences, as well as videos, interactive tours, virtual portals and 360 degree photographs which will bring the sights and sounds of so many locations locally and across the globe to your fingertips.
Speaking at the launch of the Where in the World Experience, Sharon Traynor, Communities Officer from Radius Housing said “Exploring new countries and cultures is something that we would all love to do more of, but don’t always get the chance, particularly when there has been limited international travel allowed. This is why we are launching the Where in the World Experience as the first exciting instalment of our Radius Rangers App. This will give everyone the chance to virtually experience and explore heritage, scenic sites and tourist attractions from across the globe from the comfort of your own home.
“By exploring different cultures and countries, we can find out about new ideas as well as seeing where we have commonality. This builds tolerance and understanding. We have people from so many different backgrounds living locally, and it’s important that we share and celebrate the diverse nature of the community. And it’s not just about looking around the globe, we can learn about what we have locally on the app, with additional walks and local history on Belfast and Newry and with the potential to add other walks across Northern Ireland to include other ‘Housing for All’ shared housing development areas.
“So if it’s exploring the world , finding new cultural recipes to try with the family, learning a new foreign phrase or testing yourself on how much you know about the world, then you need to download the Radius Rangers App and try the Where in the World experience today!”
Radius Housing manages over 13,000 homes across Northern Ireland, as well as providing supported housing with 24 hour care for frail and elderly people, people with dementia and those with learning difficulties; in addition it provides 12,000 day care placements. Among the housing managed by Radius are a number of T:buc and ‘Housing for All’ shared housing developments promoting good relations in Belfast, Dungannon, Coleraine and Newry.
