News of the imminent closure of Coast will come as a real disappointment to many across Holywood and beyond.
The popular family restaurant has been a well-known part of the town’s food scene for years, building a loyal customer base thanks to its welcoming atmosphere, reliable food offering and strong local presence.
For many families, Coast was a regular go-to spot for lunches, dinners, celebrations and casual catch-ups, making it a familiar fixture within the community.
Its closure also once again raises wider concerns around the pressures facing the hospitality industry in Northern Ireland. Many restaurant owners continue to highlight rising operating costs, staff pressures and the impact of VAT rates, with businesses here paying significantly higher hospitality VAT compared to the Republic of Ireland.
Hospitality leaders have repeatedly warned that the difference in VAT rates is making it increasingly difficult for local venues to compete, particularly in border regions and tourism markets.
Coast has been an important part of Holywood’s restaurant scene for many years, and many locals will be genuinely saddened to see another well-known hospitality business facing closure.
