Speaking at the launch at O’Connells Bar in her home city of Galway, campaign ambassador and Irish actress Nicola Coughlan said: “As a long time Coca-Cola fan, I’m over the moon to be working with the iconic brand to launch a really worthwhile campaign: ‘This Coke is On Us.’ It’s such a good way to support local businesses, get the goss and enjoy a free Coke while you’re at it! It’s a win-win.”

This Coke is On Us is part of Coca-Cola’s new creative campaign Open Like Never Before. The new campaign is based on a glass half full point of view reflecting the world’s new normal, encouraging consumers to promise to make this the best normal yet, and to see that we can all make a difference when we are ‘Open Like Never Before’.

A film and TV ad featuring the inspirational lines of London-born spoken word artist George The Poet invites viewers to embrace change, to see possibility, and to better appreciate things they perhaps took for granted before the pandemic. You can view the full spoken word film here.

The campaign also includes the programme Appreciate Your Locals to support hard-hit bars and restaurants reopening after a long hiatus. Through the initiative Coca-Cola has donated media space and advertising support to help some customers across the country to amplify the news of their reopening plans. Working with well-known Irish photographer Evan Doherty, Coca-Cola photographed 16 local bars and restaurants in Dublin and Belfast who will each feature in the new outdoor advertising campaign to help spread the word that they are open. 80 Coca-Cola customers have also availed of the Ad Creator tool, created by Coca-Cola to create tailored ads to their account which are then supported with media spend.

Speaking at the launch of This Coke is on Us, Coca-Cola Ireland’s General Manager Petre Sandru said: “During a very challenging time for the hospitality industry, we’re proud to be launching This Coke is On Us, which is designed to support as many small businesses as we can and encourage people to visit their local bars, cafes and restaurants by offering free Coca-Cola drinks. We see this as an opportunity to be more open and to rebuild a better world and we are honouring this commitment by supporting our valued customers through the new promotion as well as a range of advertising supports.”

The launch of Open Like Never Before marks Coca-Cola’s return to the commercial airwaves in Ireland following a seven-month global advertising pause. During this time, the company redirected resources to support COVID-19 relief efforts around the world and donated media space to charity partners. Together with their bottling partners and The Coca-Cola Foundation, The Coca-Cola Company has donated more than $100m globally to organisations to support leading relief efforts.

In Ireland, as well as donating over 600,000 drinks to those working on the front line, financial support was given to FoodCloud, which has enabled the charity to deliver the equivalent of 100,000 meals to communities in need. The company also donated advertising space to the HSE to support efforts to amplify its public information campaign and through our global supply chains, the company was able to secure much needed PPE which was donated to the HSE for use by frontline workers.
