Don’t miss Newry City’s Festival of Water event which takes place on Sunday 1st September at the Albert Basin. Pictured at the launch Mayor Michael Ruane announced a speculator line up of activities for this inaugural event. Kick starting the activities will be Newry City Triathlon “Sprint the Distance” which will include a 750m Swim Leg, 20k Cycle Route and 5K Run. Also there will be a TRY-A-TRI for under 18 to gain experience at competing in triathlons. For further information and registration details please visit: www.newrytriathlon.com

Following the triathlon there will be a buzz of activity with the Inland Waterways Association Bath Tub Race. This event is open to the entire community of the greater Newry & Mourne area so come along and participate in a truly entertaining day of water based activities in the basin. Whether you are a business’s organisation, school / college, voluntary group, community group, sports club, youth club, emergency services or statutory body the Inland Waterways Association are looking for everyone to get involved.

Not to be missed is the Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service ultimate fire fighter demonstration which will take place outside the Quays Shopping & Leisure.

To conclude the day’s activities the basin will come alive to the sounds of X-Factor star Matt Cardle, The Nooks and The Professionals. Michael Magill Entertainments have planned a great action packed family fun evening with non-stop entertainment.

The Quays Shopping Centre are also getting in on the Water Festival Action, we will have an outside broadcast from the Albert Basin side of the centre with none other than Big O and on the mall we have a DJ playing the top chart tunes from 1-5pm and face painters from the Fun house, Newry. So for a fun packed Sunday make your way to The Quays and the Albert Basin on Sunday 1st September.
