Co. Down fitness expert wins ‘Rumble in the Jungle 2015’ female crown
A Co. Down CrossFit athlete has been named one of the fittest females on the island of Ireland after winning a coveted CrossFit competition.
Jenna Herron from Holywood and co-owner of CrossFit Belfast defeated all comers in the female division of one of Ireland’s most prestigious CrossFit competitions ‘Rumble in the Jungle 2015’.
The competition in Clonakilty, Co. Cork, tested the best CrossFit athletes in Ireland, male and female, over seven gruelling events spanning two days to win the coveted competition.
The competition workouts included a range of strength and conditioning activities such as pull-ups, squats, handstand press ups, weightlifting, gymnastics, running and rowing to test the overall physical and mental capacity of each competitor.
Speaking after winning the event, Jenna Herron said: “I am absolutely delighted to win this competition and come out on top against so many top athletes from across Ireland, especially as my preparation was less than ideal. I tore ligaments in my wrist 8 weeks ago, which meant I was unable to practice many of the movements that would be tested.
“Coming into the weekend I wasn’t sure if I would actually finish all the workouts, so to win is a tremendous achievement and a real shock. I am hoping to use this success as a platform for further success in 2016 and beyond.”
Jenna co-owns CrossFit Belfast with her partner Niall McHugh and opened the doors to the state-of-the-art facility in December 2014.
CrossFit is a principal strength and conditioning programme. It is a class based fitness programme, suitable for all abilities, that combines a wide variety of functional movements into a timed or scored workout. This includes pull-ups, squats, push-ups, weightlifting, gymnastics, running, rowing, and a host of other movements.
