Victoria Square has been transformed into a magical fantasy kingdom, setting the scene for a month-long run of fairy tale themed fun for all the family this August.

Right across the centre, eye-catching installations bring mythical tales to life in spaces designed to ignite imaginations and inspire curious minds as part of a new ‘Into the Forest’ summer theme.

On the Lower Ground Floor, Jack’s Giant beanstalk, Granny’s house and a tower adorned with Rapunzel’s cascading hair, create a colourful backdrop for roleplay, and acting out favourite fairy tale scenes. Meanwhile, the VSQ Little Library (level one) and Mythical Play Area (level two), provide the perfect place for little ones to take some time out and play this summer.

Every weekend in August, there will be special pop-up performances with live entertainment from Peter Corry performers, craft workshops and much more.

On Fridays and Saturday afternoons (1-4pm), the Lower Ground Floor will come to life with visits from some of our favourite fairy tale characters. Visit Granny’s house with Little Red Riding Hood in ‘Little Red Lost’; immerse yourself in the Land of the Giants, as you listen to tales of Jack’s heroic adventures;Let Down your hair – enjoy craft workshops making special creations for Rapunzel’s hair and you may even meet a handsome singing prince or magical fairy godmother in the‘You Shall Go to the Ball’zone.

On Sunday afternoons (1-4pm), visit VSQ’s free face painting stationfor a magical makeover;Let Down your hair – enjoy craft workshops making special creations for Rapunzel’s hair and enjoy the sounds of local music talent with music on the mall.

The Into the Forest events programme will wrap up with a special series of pop-up performances on Bank Holiday Monday, 29 August.

The Into the Forest installation has been created in partnership with local company Rebel Events, with performances from Peter Corry performers and local musicians.

Commenting on the launch, Michelle Greeves, centre manager said: “Our new Into the Forest installation is perhaps our most ambitious yet, with unique spaces and experiences that will make memorable moments for our customers and their families this summer. We’re excited to work with local talent to bring our favourite childhood stories to life with a packed programme of family fun in the heart of Belfast.”

Every week in August, Victoria will choose one customer photo taken in its Into the Forest installation areas to feature on its social media feeds, with a £50 Victoria Square Gift Card also going to the chosen snapper. Tag your photos using @Victoriasqbelfast and #VSQBelfast for the chance to win.
