How the World has changed

CEEFAX is dead RIP. The once cutting edge technology we used to check the football scores, news, weather and book a holiday. You used to watch Top of the Pops with 888 and sing along. Those were the days!!!!
Your baby cot was covered with brightly colored lead based paint that we chewed on and licked. Our medicine bottles didn’t have child proof lids. We rode our bikes with no helmets in a pair of flip-flops with a piece of cardboard stuck to a clothes peg on the wheel. We drank water from the garden hose. We ate Crips, sweets and cake, but we never got fat because… we were always outside. We shared one drink with four friends from one bottle and we didn’t die from this. We had no phones, no PlayStations or 700 channel satellite systems. We had friends, we went outside and we’d find them and we played. We played rounder’s and fell out of trees. We broke bones but didn’t claim of anyone. We walked to school. We shared things and got dirty. We wore clothes our brothers and sisters had worn. We got 2oz of sherbet dips and cola cubes in little paper bags from the corner shop. There was no Tesco’s! and a holiday was a day trip to Barry’s in Port rush. You know that another name for a keyboard is a “Synthesizer”. You could breakdance or at least wish you could. You wanted to dress like the Hulk. You believed that “By the Power of Greyskull,” you HAD the POWER.You thought that Transformers were more than meets the eye. You remember what Michael Jackson looked like before his nose fell off. You knew what Willis was “talkin’ ’bout”. You know where to go if you “wanna go where everybody knows your name.” You actually thought “Dirty Dancing” was a REALLY good movie. Punks actually “shocked” people. You knew “The Artist”, when he was called “Prince”. You remember when ATARI was a state of the art video game. You own many cassettes. You were led to believe that in the year 2000 we’d all be living on the moon. And you would be like the ‘Jetsons’. Poltergeist and The Omen freaked you out. You have wondered why Smurfette was the ONLY female smurf. You had a Swatch Watch, or three. You had a crush on Bo Derek or Heather Locklear or Cheetara. Maradonna was the best footballer and had the hand of God. You had a crush on Jon BonJovi, or knew someone who did. You held the top score on PacMan. You know that ‘Modern Talking’ is not something to describe slang. The first time you heard ‘Ozone’ is not something that describes an environmental problem. You thought that Van Damme’s split was really cool. You knew how to make or at least wore a ‘friendship band’ round your wrist.’Ho’ doesn’t mean ‘Santa Claus is coming to town’ but it meant that the Thundercats will come running to your aid. We are the last generation who learned to play in the street, we are the 1st who’ve played video games, and were the last to record songs off the radio on cassettes, and we are the pioneers of Walkmans and chat rooms. We learned how to program the VCR before anyone else, play Super Nintendo and believed that the Internet would be a free world. -We are the generation of Monkey Magic, Happy Days, Ulysses 31, Muskehounds, Cagney and Lacey, Ghostbusters, Blockbusters, A-Team, Quatum Leap, Airwolf, Different strokes and the Cosby show. We traveled in cars without seat belts or air-bags and our parent’s “drinked and drive”. We lived without mobile phones. – We did not have flat screens, surround sound, iPods, Facebook, Twitter, computers & the Internet… but nevertheless we had a GREAT flipping time… How the world has changed!!!
