KILKEEL GI JIVE RETURNS
Where else would music, dance, fashion and cookery meet tanks, planes and weaponry? Where else but Kilkeel. This years GI Jive Festival commences on Saturday 29th July with a day packed full of free family entertainment.
Don your bobby sox and throw back to the fourties when American GIs were stationed in Kilkeel preparing for the allied invasion of Europe. Surround yourself in wartime memorabilia and reminisce the fashion and culture of the war years.
Running from 12noon to 5pm, GI Jive celebrates the toe tapping, hip swinging, Fourties with vintage vehicles, Living History Displays, fashion show and children’s fun. New this year is an interactive Demonstration by the Wartime Living History Association in which spectators can get involved.
The much loved cookery demonstrations will be provided by a star studded line up of chefs including:James Devine (National Chef of the Year 2017); Danni Barry (one of an elite group of female Michelin starred chefs in the UK); Eddie Attwell (The Great British Menu 2016 & 2017); Joery Castel (The Great British Menu) and Roger Moynihan (Head Chef of Mourne Seafood Cookery School).
Partnership is vital to the Kilkeel Development Association, enabling them to create and deliver the GI Jive Festival. Martin McGinley, Managing Director and Vice President of sponsors, Rockwell Collins (Kilkeel) says the Rockwell Collins’ American roots, combined with their aviation credentials and local presence, make GI Jive a highly appropriate partnership. “We’re proud to be at the heart of our local community and are consequently delighted, once again, to give our support to an event which has created a fascinating link with the past, preserving memories of the many GIs who were stationed in County Down in WWII, and providing a wonderful showcase for our hospitable and vibrant ‘home town’.”
Lindy bop or jitterbug to big band swing in Kilkeel this July. Swing down to Kilkeel and throw back to the fourties on Facebook and www.gijivefesival.com
