AS the eagerly anticipated Dubai Duty Free Irish Open, hosted by the Rory Foundation, prepares to get underway at Portstewart Golf Club from 4th-9th July 2017, Tourism NI is calling on everyone to get fully ‘golf-ready’  for the event that is set to welcome over 20,000 visitors per day in a week-long festival of golf.

As golf fans from all over the world will descend on Portstewart for the high-profile tournament, Tourism NI is encouraging the Northern Ireland public to play a vital role in the iconic sporting occasion by being ‘golf-ready’ and acting as ambassadors during the event.

With only one week to go before some of the greatest golfers on the planet walk the fairways of the Strand Course, Northern Ireland is already anticipating soaking up the bustling festival atmosphere and getting to know their bogies from their birdies, in support of our own golfing greats.

From taxi drivers to tour operators, concierges to chefs, bread bakers to ice cream makers and bar managers to young amateurs, Tourism NI is ensuring everyone can get a ‘grip’ on the facts with a fun Northern Ireland ‘golf -ready’ bespoke quiz created for the tournament, which will test if you are an avid amateur or a major champion!

Eimear Callaghan, Tourism Northern Ireland’s Golf Marketing Manager, said: “This year’s Dubai Duty Free Irish Open promises to be bigger and better than ever before and the entire Causeway Coast and Glens is rolling out the red carpet to welcome visitors from home and abroad.   It is no small feat to stage one of golf’s largest events, while broadcasting every second to homes around the world.  It requires a vast amount of teamwork to make it happen, the buzz is now really intensifying and we are thrilled that people across Northern Ireland are getting ‘golf ready’.

From airports, taxi companies and ferry terminals, to green-keepers and buggy drivers, everyone is making a big collective effort to welcome the world; whether that’s practicing their golf lingo or creating bespoke golfing menus.

“The excitement is building fast and there will be a superb atmosphere over the entire tournament, not just on the golf course but throughout the region with a packed schedule of family-fun activities.”

She added: “We are calling on everyone to be proud ambassadors for the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open and make it an event to remember for everyone for years to come.”

Over 300 local volunteers will be on site in Portstewart during the five-day tournament to showcase the very best of Northern Ireland hospitality.  The Irish Open will be broadcast to countries across the globe, reaching more than 450 million households worldwide.
