Jamie McCoy, Jordan Doherty and Samuel Robinson from Belfast Boys’ Model School have been presented with the inaugural Boys’ Model Bursary Fund at the school’s annual prize day, with each student receiving £3,000.
Former pupils of the school created the bursary in memory of their late former Headmaster and school sporting legend Ernie Davis, to help students progressing to university or 3rd level education fulfil their ambitions.
Principal Alan Logan commented: “Many congratulations to Jamie, Jordan and Samuel – the first recipients of the bursary. All three pupils are excellent examples of Belfast Boys’ Model School core values – respect, integrity and commitment, and all attained excellent grades at A-Level. It is hugely significant to the school community that past pupils who have enjoyed success in their chosen fields – and feel a sense of gratitude to the school – have set up a Bursary Fund which will encourage and support young men to follow in their footsteps.
“Many of our pupils experience barriers to fulfilling their ambition to take up University or third level education places, and these generous bursaries will make a real difference to them. It is with great appreciation I commend and endorse the work and generosity of all those involved in creating the Boys’ Model Bursary Fund.”
Roy Adair, Secretary of the Board of Trustees added: “It was a great privilege to attend the ceremony and reflect on the incredible achievements of our young people. I would like to congratulate Jamie, Jordan and Samuel and I have no doubt they will inspire further greatness throughout the school and provide extra motivation for future student success.”
