Antrim-based natural gas supplier, firmus energy, has announced that its next charity of the year will be Sands NI. Chosen by the employees from a selection shortlisted by the CSR committee, Sands NI works tirelessly to support anyone in Northern Ireland who has been affected by the death of a baby, before, during or shortly after birth.
Rochelle Magee, charity champion for firmus energy, comments: “I am pleased that we are supporting Sands NI which offers vital emotional support for parents, grandparents, siblings, children and families of those affected by the tragedy of a baby’s death. The entire firmus energy team will be involved in raising funds to support the vital work carried out by the charity.
“There is no singular way to deal with such a devastating, life-changing blow and everyone grieves differently. Each person needs different types of support and Sands are experts in helping those who have experienced the loss of a baby.”
Steven Guy from Sands NI, comments: “It is a sad fact that, across Northern Ireland, around three babies a week are stillborn or die in the first four weeks of life. We are here for anyone affected by the death of a baby as they face things that they have probably never even considered before. It can be very overwhelming and our support services, including; support group meetings for parents, memorial services and befriending services, can help families at this very difficult time.
“Anyone wishing to find out more about what we do should visit our website, www.sandsni.org or get in touch with a member of our compassionate team on 07740 993450.”
firmus energy team members will carry out various activities during the next 12 months, such as hosting coffee mornings, barbecues and bake sales, as well as taking part in organised sporting activities, such as triathlons and marathons, to support fundraising activity for Sands NI.
