Applications now open for 2015/16 Dale Farm Athletes Academy

Northern Ireland’s leading dairy company Dale Farm has renewed its support for local sporting talent by launching the 2015/16 Dale Farm Athletes’ Academy, in partnership with Mary Peters Trust.

The annual programme provides five of Northern Ireland’s most promising young athletes with access to expert mentorship to help them meet their international career goals as well as a much-needed financial boost.

With a history of backing local sport, from grassroots to elite levels, Dale Farm has been helping drive the careers of young athletes through the Dale Farm Athletes’ Academy, and previously the Dale Farm Sports Award, for many years.

Jason Hempton, Commercial Director – Branded Products, Dale Farm said:

“Dale Farm is proud to once again be recognising the sports stars of tomorrow through the Dale Farm Athletes’ Academy. We are committed to nurturing young sporting talent and, importantly, highlighting the benefits of maintaining an active, balanced lifestyle to all young people in Northern Ireland.”

Dame Mary Peters DBE, President of the Mary Peters Trust, added:

“We have such a wealth of sporting talent on our doorstep in Northern Ireland but young athletes rely on support such as that of Dale Farm to really maximise their potential.  We hope that the 2015/16 Dale Farm Athletes’ Academy will once again shine the light on our most exciting, ambitious and passionate young sportspeople.”

As well as receiving a bursary, the five selected athletes will participate in a unique masterclass, during which they will access one-on-one mentorship from a team of experts on topics such as nutrition, sports psychology and media training. The winning five will also have the opportunity to inspire ‘little athletes’ at primary school level about the importance of nutrition and activity through the Dale Farm School Sports Day programme next spring.

Nomination forms for the 2015/16 Dale Farm Athletes’ Academy are available from all sports governing bodies, the Mary Peters Trust or www.dalefarm.co.uk – with applications closing on Wednesday 30th September 2015. The winners will be announced in October 2015.
