Homemade breads and tray bakes, award-winning coffee, artisan foods and a new autumnal menu featuring the best of local, seasonal producers from all over Northern Ireland…

It’s been quite a year for Canteen Belfast who are this week celebrating a hugely successful first year in business on the bustling Belmont Road, and the eatery has brought the same dedication and passion to exceptional coffee, fantastic food and creative events from its former home in Saint Anne’s Square, Belfast.

Speaking about the first major milestone, Sharon Wright, director, Canteen said: “Myself and the entire Canteen team are thrilled to be celebrating our first birthday today.

“The Belmont Road has been a fantastic home for us, with its bustling trade, brilliant retail mix and welcoming vibe from our neighbouring businesses.

“We have had such overwhelming support and are regularly holding events for groups and clubs in the local community; these range from musical events, clubs to charity and sporting organisations.

“We have our monthly jazz and musical suppers, we are a part of the Belmont Road Food Tour and we are also hosting a fashion and beauty show on the 1stOctober – its been a whirlwind first year with no sign of settling down with Christmas on the way.”

“A major part of our success has being involved in Belmont Road / Strandtown Traders Association, who are such a passionate group of businesspeople, working exceptionally hard behind the scenes, to further establish this area as such a vibrant place to work, live, shop and dine in.

Sharon concluded: “I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our loyal customers – old and new – for their support over the past year and look forward to welcoming them to sample our new autumn menu.”

Canteen has long been renowned for providing exceptional coffee, and in 2013 was listed as one of the top 50 coffee houses in the UK.

Barry Heaton Head Chef at Canteen continued: “We have had a fantastic year and really feel like we have found our true home on the vibrant Belmont Road.

“Our ethos has and always will be to source our products locally and seasonally where possible which is what we continue to do, and we have proven that our diners continue to enjoy our local menus which we have created from local produce at a very keen price.

“We work very hard all year round to ensure that our menu supports the fantastic local artisan producers including Hannans Meats, Mikes Fancy Cheeses, Cavanagh Free Range Eggs, Clandeboye Estate Yoghurt and Coffeys sausages – to name but a few.

“Our new autumn menu has just been launched and we are putting the final details of our ‘Canteen to Go’ deli, which we know will be a huge hit with the local businesspeople in the area.”

Barry concluded: “For our birthday week we are celebrating National Tray Bake Week and we have had a lot of fun creating some of Ulster’s best loved treats– I urge everyone to pop in for a sample and a cup of our award-winning coffee.”

This child-friendly venue has been a welcome addition to the bustling Belmont Road and with an extensive menu, including gluten free and vegetarian, free Wi-Fi with fantastic event and conference facilities with a ‘bring your own’ policy.  There is even a dedicated children’s area with a selection of toys and books to keep the little ones amused.
