GIANTS KEEP FLAMES UNDER CONTROL WITH 5–2 ROAD WIN IN GUILDFORD
The Belfast Giants delivered a powerhouse performance on Sunday evening, securing a 5–2 victory over the Guildford Flames and completing a huge four-point weekend on the road. Adam Keefe’s side battled through early pressure, found their scoring rhythm, and closed out a well-earned win to continue climbing the Elite League table.
🔥 First Period: Captains Lead the Way
Guildford came out firing, with Josh Waller and Matt Alvaro testing Jackson Whistle early. The pressure paid off when Alvaro struck on a wraparound to give the Flames a 1–0 lead.
But the Giants responded instantly.
A misplaced pass from ex-Giant Charlie Curti fell straight to David Goodwin, and the Belfast captain calmly slotted home to make it 1–1. Both sides pushed for the lead, with chances at both ends, but a late penalty kill from Belfast ensured the teams went to the intermission level.
⚡ Second Period: Power Play Precision & Quickfire Goals
The Flames again started brightly, but Whistle produced a brilliant double stop to deny Gosselin and Curti.
Then came the momentum shift.
On a power play just 40 seconds in, Jordan Kawaguchi finished off slick work from Mike Lee and JJ Piccinich to give Belfast the 2–1 advantage.
Less than a minute later, Scott Conway reacted quickest to a rebound off the back boards to make it 3–1, stunning the Spectrum crowd.
Guildford hit back when Waller converted a breakaway to cut the deficit to 3–2, and the hosts pushed hard for an equaliser — rattling the post late on — but the Giants held strong heading into the final period.
🏒 Third Period: Clinical Giants Shut the Door
The Giants pressed early, with Grasso, Eriksson, Long and Guay all coming close. Guildford’s biggest moment came when Strang lifted a golden opportunity over an empty net with Whistle down on the ice.
That miss proved costly.
Moments later, Jake Gaudet pounced in a goal-mouth scramble to restore the two-goal cushion at 4–2.
With just over two minutes left, Guildford pulled their goalie, but Marcus Eriksson punished the gamble with an empty-net finish to seal a deserved 5–2 win and complete a perfect weekend for the Teal Army.
💬 Final Score: Guildford Flames 2–5 Belfast Giants
A composed, clinical and resilient road performance from Keefe’s men — and a statement ahead of a busy December schedule.
