Belfast beats London, New York and Tokyo to win place on global edition of Monopoly board
MONOPOLY fans invited to vote for favourite world cities for new MONOPOLY HERE & NOW: WORLD EDITION.
HASBRO has today announced the final cities on the first-ever crowdsourced MONOPOLY board, with Belfast voted in the top 10 most popular destinations, beating cities including London, New York and Tokyo.
The final list of cities was revealed today by Hasbro on MONOPOLY’s 80th birthday with Belfast coming in ninth place worldwide and placed on the ‘Red’ property spaces. The Northern Irish capital beat London, who finished in 12th spot, as well as Cardiff, Dublin and Edinburgh who didn’t make it onto the board.
LoveBelfast founder, Inga Norvilyte, who fronted the campaign to get Belfast on the board, said:
“This is absolutely amazing for Belfast. I’m so proud to be part of it and can’t wait to play the new MONOPOLY: HERE AND NOW game. A big thanks to everyone who voted and shared my love for this great city. Millions of people around the world will now be playing a MONOPOLY board with the city of Belfast on it! To finish 9th in the world vote and as the top UK city is a great advertisement for N.Ireland.”
For the first time, fans were invited to select their favourite cities in the MONOPOLY HERE & NOW vote, powered by Buzzfeed, and shape the latest edition of the board game. Since February 13, 4 million votes have been cast from 182 countries worldwide.
