Domino’s has today released new research revealing that staying in really is the new going out with three-quarters (76 per cent) of couples planning to dine in rather than eat out this Valentine’s Day.

Cosying up on the sofa with food and a movie is the most popular way blissed out couples will be celebrating the annual celebration of love, with 62 per cent saying they prefer watching a film at home than going to the cinema.  The research also revealed that one in 17 (six per cent) will be getting down on one knee to propose to their partner over a meal at home.

For partners planning to pop the big question over pizza, Domino’s has created a unique 22-carat gold, ‘money-can’t-buy’ diamond ‘en-crust-ed’ engagement ring.  Only one ring has been made, and it will be given away to a lucky winner chosen at random as part of the Domino’s Valen-Dine-in Facebook event (which over 300 people are already signed up to attend).

While one in five people (22 per cent) say they have made a mixed tape at some point for a partner, nine per cent have made a cheesy playlist of romantic songs for their night in this Valentine’s Day.  You’re Beautiful by James Blunt was voted the nation’s cheesiest love song with others on the list including Westlife’s Raise Me Up, Lionel Richie’s Hello and Rick Astley’s Never Gonna Give You Up.

  1. You’re Beautiful – James Blunt
  2. You Raise Me Up – Westlife
  3. Never Gonna Give You Up – Rick Astley
  4. Hello – Lionel Richie
  5. Hero – Enrique Iglesias
  6. I’ll Make Love To You – Boyz II Men
  7. We Belong Together – Mariah Carey
  8. I Swear – All-4-One
  9. As Long As You Love Me – Backstreet Boys
  10. Just The Way You Are – Bruno Mars

Louise Butler at Domino’s comments: “Valentine’s Day is always one of our busiest days of the year, as increasingly more people are opting for a night in rather than going out – and what better way to spend the evening than with a hot slice of Pepperoni Passion!  We’re constantly innovating to make our customers’ lives easier – and our new pizza engagement ring is the ultimate gift for someone planning to pop the question this 14th February.  Combined with our cheesiest love songs playlist who could possibly say no?!”

Anyone – single or attached – staying in on Valentine’s Day is invited to join the Domino’s ValenDine-in Day Facebook event here facebook.com/DominosIreland.
