The Epic Downhill Mountain Bike Race Returned to Northern Ireland for Its 7^th Irish Edition

Kelan Grant (Omagh) has won the 2022 edition of Red Bull Foxhunt following an epic performance, pipping four-time winner Colin Ross (Lisburn) to the finish line. 300 riders tackled the thrilling 3.5km long course, charging through the jumps, drops and rough terrain of Slieve Croob, County Down at speeds in excess of 50kmph.

Red Bull Athlete’s and world leading Downhill Mountain Biker’s Greg Callaghan (IRE) and Gee Atherton (GBR) chased down the pack in a play on the historical pastime of foxhunting with the traditional roles reversed. Grant, Ross and third place Glyn O’Brien (Newry) held their position ahead of the advancing foxes.

First place Kelan Grant commented; “Absolutely stoked, I won this a couple of years ago (2017) and I have been trying to win it ever since, I’m really happy to tick it off again. Feeling very out of breath, it was a very physical track and Colin put up a good battle for second.”

Second place Colin Ross commented; “I feel really tired, it was so much more physical than I realised. I’ve been out of racing for a few years but put in a good four- or five-weeks training before this. I always thought I had no chance of winning, so I said I’d turn up and give it my best shot and be here for the craic, but second place is good, and good to give Kelan a hard time too.”

Third place Glyn O’Brien commented “I knew before I started that it would be very physical. I’ve got third three times so that must be my lucky number.”
