Belfast, the capital and the largest city of Northern Ireland. This historically-rich and beautiful city is one of the most cultural cities in the entire United Kingdom. Although quite modernised, Belfast still has a lot to offer for anyone who visits this city for the first time.

Historical landmarks, casino sites, amazing restaurants and many more are just some of the things worth exploring in Belfast. Unfortunately, there’s so much to see in Belfast that people rarely manage to visit everything they wanted in a single visit.

That’s quite alright because Belfast is welcoming both new arrivals and old guests whenever they decide to come. With that in mind, here are a couple of things worth seeing when visiting Belfast for the first time.

Titanic Belfast

This exhibition, museum and venue are located at the very spot where RMS Titanic was built back in the day. The site was once the largest shipyard in the world called the Harland and Wolff shipyard.

You also have an opportunity to visit the world’s last remaining White Star vessel and RMS Titanic’s original tender ship called SS Nomadic. You can walk the deck, explore the ship and have a full Titanic experience, except the sinking, of course.

The Grand Opera House

When visiting Belfast for the first time, you should not miss the opportunity to visit the Grand Opera House.

Designed by renowned architect Frank Matcham, the Opera House prides itself with a majestic Victorian auditorium and plentiful programme of drama, opera, dance, comedy, family shows and many more events worth seeing and experiencing.

Located in the city centre, the Opera House offers experiences worth more than 100 years of existence. Something everyone should come and visit if they find themselves in Belfast.

The Golden Thread Gallery

If you’re interested in contemporary visual arts, then the Golden thread gallery is the place worth seeing. The gallery’s primary objective is to enhance and widen the cultural experience of everyone who works, lives and visits the region.

The gallery originated in a former linen mill back when Belfast was the biggest linen producer in the world. This has earned Belfast the title of “Linenopolis”.

To this day, the gallery creates exhibitions and programmes that will make a significant contribution to the visual arts. Therefore, if you’re fond of this type of visual content, you should definitely pay this gallery a visit.

Ulster Hall

For every 150 years, Ulster Hall continues to be at the forefront of Belfast’s cultural life. The hall is home to many plays and programmes ranging from comedies to amazing musical performances.

If you have an opportunity to visit this historic place, you may even get a chance to enjoy watching the Ulster Orchestra performing in the hall. No matter when you visit the hall, you’ll always find something worthy of seeing and experiencing, especially for the first time.

Closing Words

As mentioned before, Belfast is one of the most beautiful and culturally rich cities in the world, not just the UK. First time visitors are usually left in awe of how magnificent this city really is. Once you start exploring, you’ll see that Belfast has everything for everyone, no matter the preferences.
