WANTED: Could you be Cash for Kids’ Superhero?

Children’s charity, Cash for Kids, is in need of a hero – and it could be YOU. The Downtown Radio and Cool FM breakfast teams came together to prove – with a little help from their heroic friends – everyone can be a hero by taking part in Cash for Kids’ annual Superhero Day (Wednesday 27th – Friday 29th April).

This year’s fundraising activities will support the work of three local charities – Tiny Life, PIPS Suicide Prevention Ireland and Carers Trust Northern Ireland – to help tackle issues affecting children, young people and their families across Northern Ireland.

Cash for Kids is sending out a Bat-Signal to local businesses, schools, colleges and universities to assemble and fundraise by hosting a Marvel-ous quiz, a superhero dress-up day, or through sponsorship for a Herculean task.

In the lead up to the event, Downtown Radio and Cool FM will be broadcasting a series of interviews with those affected by issues including the pressures facing young carers; the need for suicide prevention in the province, and the specialist support on offer to premature babies and their families. On-air activities will culminate with a special live simulcast across both stations.

Therese Maguire, Cash for Kids Charity Manager, explains how this year will focus on revealing your inner superhero:

“Cash for Kids wants to emphasise that by dusting off your favourite costume on just one occasion can make you a superhero all year round. Through supporting the valuable work of these local charities on Superhero Day and beyond, you are helping local young people facing struggles on a daily basis, 365 days a year. Last year, the public raised over £75,000 by donning the cape of their chosen superhero.

“The funds raised this year across the three days of activity will go directly to helping disadvantaged children in Northern Ireland – including facilitating the launch of a helpline through Carers Trust Northern Ireland. A resource which will allow young carers to speak directly to their peers in similar circumstances.”

To register, visit www.coolfm.co.uk/hero and join the ever-growing league of superheroes.

Alternatively, to make a quick donation, text FIVE to 70808 to donate £5*.
