With two impressive wins under their belt against Canada and Romania, Ireland’s rugby squad has kick-started the World Cup campaign in style. But locally attention has focused on the abandoned Wives & Girlfriends (WAGs) of the Ulster players, following media reports that they’ve been ‘kicked into touch’ for the six weeks of the tournament.
In response, Asda NI has started a ‘WAGs Welcome Here’ campaign in support of Jodie Best (wife of Rory), newly married Lucy Bowe (wife of Tommy), Jade Hamilton (girlfriend of Chris Henry) and Helen Moore (girlfriend of Darren Cave) who have been left home alone thanks to the reported ‘lockdown’ imposed by team officials.
However the high profile WAGs are not alone in their abandonment as the Asda campaign extends to other partners of rugby fanatics who may feel overlooked throughout the tournament, as the company’s Senior Director for NI, George Rankin explains:
“We felt it was a bit unfair that the WAGs of our top players have been abandoned at this historic time, so we decided to extend an official welcome to all those who may be concerned that rugby is dominating both the headlines and their home-life at the moment. Our doors remain open to all!”
