Translink Metro passengers can now purchase travel tickets using their smartphone
Translink has launched a significant update to their mLink App following research from Ofcom which confirms that Northern Ireland is fast becoming a nation of smartphone users, with almost two thirds of NI adults owning one.
The app, which is compatible with both iPhone and Android now enables passengers to purchase Metro Day Tickets offering unlimited travel for one day anywhere on Metro. mLink already also allows passengers to purchase a range of NI Railways tickets.
In addition, customers can access real-time travel information, a journey planner and timetables with the company’s TranslinkNI App
Recent research from the British Retail Consortium also shows that in the UK, the value of cash payments has fallen by almost 20% over the last 5 years, indicating that the digital economy is overtaking cash-in-hand transactions.
Carol Lundy, Translink Brand Manager explains
“Research demonstrates we are fast becoming a cashless society, with people preferring to make payments online rather than carry money. With over 70% of our passengers using mobile or tablet devices to get information, more and more of them tell us they like the convenience and flexibility of having access to both ‘live’ timetable information and tickets all in the palm of their hand using their phone!
“We’ve listened carefully to the feedback and we’re delighted to announce that Metro passengers can now buy day tickets via our mLink app – it’s simple, secure and makes our great value fares even more accessible.
“Based on the reactions from Metro customers so far, the mLink app’s latest feature is a further success helping them to save both time and money.
“mLink is just one example of how we are continuously evolving and we look forward to welcoming our tech savvy customers on board soon!”, Carol concludes.
mLink can be used on all Metro services and is now available to download for free from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. For full details on mLink visit:
