Translink encourages passengers to shop local this Christmas

As the Christmas shopping season gets into full swing, Translink has teamed up with the Northern Ireland Independent Retail Trade Association (NIIRTA) to encourage passengers to shop local over the festive season. Glyn Roberts, Chief Executive, NIIRTA is joined by Translink driver Mark Burns, Carol Lundy, Translink Brand Manager and Zoe Morgan from Newcastle as they encourage shoppers to support local business during Small Business Saturday this weekend. Commenting on the importance of supporting local business at this time of year, Glyn said: "Independent retailers are making a serious comeback in Northern Ireland. They offer customers something different to multiple retailers and make our town centres more diverse as a result. "Up to 70p in every pound that is spent with independent retailers benefits the local economy by supporting local producers and suppliers. It is therefore crucial that consumers go the extra mile by shopping with independent traders. We are delighted to be working with Translink to highlight the many benefits of shopping locally throughout the Christmas period and beyond." Carol Lundy, Brand Manager for Translink, said: "At this busy time of year, we are always pleased to welcome passengers on board as they use our services when Christmas shopping in towns and villages across Northern Ireland. Wherever it is you are headed, we have a wide range of special fares to help you get there, such as our new £2 Ulsterbus day return fare. With so much to choose from locally, you're sure to find exactly what you're looking for!''
