Book lovers are invited to celebrate the power of reading as Book Week NI returns from 20–26 October 2025, with a programme of events, community activities, and book give aways.

A highlight of the week will be a special Reading Group event at Belfast Grand Central Station on Wednesday 22 October at 11-12.30pm, hosted by Libraries NI. Commuters and visitors will be able to discover new reads, and join an informal discussion celebrating books that inspire, entertain, and connect us.

The North West Transport Hub will also host a mobile library from Libraries NI on Wednesday making it even easier for passengers to pick up a new read.

Commenting on the annual literary initiative, David Cowan, Director of Commercial Operations at Translink, said:
“Whether you’re waiting on your next bus or train or making the most of your journey time, picking up a good book or getting lost in a great audio book is a fantastic way to make time for reading. We’re looking forward to hosting this year’s Book Week NI Great Big Reading Group and hope it encourages even more people to pick up their next great read.”

Ciara Gault, Deputy Head of Service at Libraries NI, added,
“Reading offers so many benefits—from boosting wellbeing and concentration to building empathy and expanding our understanding of the world. With today’s busy lifestyles, regular journeys on the bus or train can be the perfect opportunity to pick up a book or listen to an audiobook. At Libraries NI, we encourage everyone to make the most of their commute and discover how even a few pages a day can make a real difference.”

Book Week NI, now in its 10th year, is a joint initiative between Libraries NI and BBC Northern Ireland celebrating the role of books and reading in everyday life. The week will feature events across libraries, schools, and community venues, encouraging people of all ages to take time to enjoy a book.
