NI public encouraged to put their best foot forward and help raise funds for life-saving charity
SEPTEMBER is national Air Ambulance month and to celebrate, Air Ambulance Northern Ireland (AANI) is organising the ‘Three Peaks Challenge’, sponsored by Boost Drinks. The charity is encouraging everyone to get outdoors and conquer one or two of Northern Ireland’s famous mountains in aid of the life-saving charity.
Air Ambulance NI is asking people to register at airambulanceni.org before each event in order to climb Slieve Donard on September 14 and Slemish on September 28. Registration is now closed for Cuilcagh on September 21 due to maximum number of spaces being booked for this event.
Air Ambulance NI, in partnership with Northern Ireland Ambulance Service (NIAS) provides the Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS) for Northern Ireland and requires £5,500 a day from donations and fund-raising to sustain operations.
The Three Peak Challenge is perfect for workmates, friends and families to get together and raise essential funds. Since the first deployment in July 2017 the Air Ambulance has been tasked on over 900 occasions to serious or life-threatening situations throughout the province.
Kerry Anderson, Head of Fundraising at AANI, said: “As we get closer to the Three Peak Challenge we are getting more excited to see the good hearted NI public take part. Air Ambulance NI requires £2million every year to keep the helicopter in the air and help save lives.
“It’s easy to register online for just £10 at airambulanceni.org. You don’t need to be an experienced hiker as you can walk up the mountains at your own pace with a group of friends and spend the time doing something very worthwhile,” Kerry added.
AANI brings urgent medical assistance to anywhere in the province, operating seven days a week for 12 hours per day. It can get to anywhere in Northern Ireland in approximately twenty-five minutes. This Doctor/Paramedic service benefits those whose lives are at serious risk following significant injury or trauma. Effectively the service brings emergency hospital care direct to the casualty.
“We urge everyone who is interested in the Three Peak Challenge to register and help raise funds for this essential charity that saves lives on a regular basis,” said Francine Matthews, Boost Drinks’ Consumer Marketing Manager.
“We are very passionate about raising money and awareness and continue to support AANI by donating 5p from every bottle of our popular 500ml Red Berry and have been fundraising at several major events across the province,” added Francine.
