Today, ahead of Belfast hosting The Color Run presented by Dulux, Ulster Rugby and Ireland internationals took a break from training, throwing multicolored powder in place of rugby balls. The Color Run, which has a reputation as the world’s happiest and most colourful 5km, touches down in the city’s Titanic Quarter on August 24. Ulster players Paddy Wallace, Tom Court, Craig Gilroy and Chris Henry took part in today’s shoot in support of Stand Up to Cancer, the event’s official charity campaign partner.

The Color Run is a one-of-a-kind event that is less about speed and more about enjoying a colour crazy day with your friends and family. Thousands of runners of all shapes, sizes and speeds will start the run wearing white clothing, a blank canvas for the kaleidoscope of colours they will encounter around the course. At each kilometre a different colour of powder is thrown in the air with the runners becoming a constantly evolving artwork. This month will see the event make its debut on the shores of Ireland and places are still available  >>> http://tidd.ly/bb846ab6

The Ulster players got a sneak preview today and are sure that the people of Belfast and surrounding areas will bring a real carnival feel as they make their way round the colourful 5km course.

Paddy Wallace, Tom Court, Craig Gilroy and Chris Henry took part in today’s shoot in support of Stand Up to Cancer, the event’s official charity campaign partner.

Ulster and Ireland’s Paddy Wallace said, “Today has been loads of fun which is what The Color Run is all about. It’s a great way to get some exercise with all your friends and family, enjoy yourselves and importantly it’s also a brilliant way to raise money for a good cause which is why we are delighted to lend our support to Stand Up To Cancer.”

At the end of the course runners will be greeted by the Colour Festival where the air is filled with music and stunning coloured powder bursts creating a vibrant party atmosphere. The welcoming event has a focus on healthiness, happiness, individuality and giving back to the community. There are no winners or official times and thousands of participants from across the region will be using the occasion to raise money for a good cause.

John Robinson, President IRFU Ulster Branch said, “We are calling on everyone to follow the lead of the Ulster players and to Stand Up To Cancer.  Taking part in The Color Run is a fantastic way to get involved and to help raise money to fund life-saving research.   Most of us know people whose lives have been touched by cancer.   This is an opportunity to make a stand and to help more people survive.”

The Color Run in Belfast kick starts the new year-long partnership between Cancer Research UK and Ulster Rugby. Local people are being urged to raise money for the charity through Stand Up To Cancer, the dynamic fundraising campaign from Cancer Research UK and Channel Four.

Jenny Hall, Marketing Controller for presenting sponsor Dulux said, “We feel passionately about the positive impact colour can have on us and the places in which we live. Being able to bring The Color Run to Belfast is another way for us to bring our mission of ‘adding colour to people’s lives’ to life, as the ultimate celebration of just how uplifting colour can be.”

Michael Graham, of Titanic Quarter, commented, “We look forward to welcoming The Color Run for its debut on the island of Ireland and are confident the event can have a successful future here. This is the latest in a long list of high-profile sporting, entertainment and fun events to take place at Titanic Quarter.”
