ALL ABOARD FOR THE VOYAGE OF A LIFETIME!
The Grand Opera House Summer Youth Production is back with The Pirates of Penzance, and budding 10-18-year-old performers have until 25 February 2022 to register for open auditions
Following the Theatre’s recent multi-million-pound restoration, the Grand Opera House’s Summer Youth Production returns in July for its tenth season with a truly swashbuckling show: Gilbert and Sullivan’s evergreen comedy The Pirates of Penzance.
Registration for open auditions for 10-18-year-olds wanting to come aboard and join in the fun is now open, with the auditions themselves taking place on Sunday 6 March 2022. For two weeks from 10 July, more than 100 talented young performers will take part in intensive rehearsals led by a professional theatre director, musical director, choreographer and technical team, before taking to the iconic Grand Opera House stage for four performances in front of an audience.
Anyone wanting to take their first steps onto the stage and into the spotlight can sign up for a summer of guaranteed fun at the Grand Opera House. And if working behind the scenes is more appealing, the Summer Youth Production also offers young people aged 16-18 the opportunity to work alongside the Grand Opera House’s experienced technical team as a member of the youth tech crew.

Grand Opera House Chief Executive Ian Wilson said: “The Summer Youth Production has established itself as one of the biggest, best and most enjoyable schemes of its kind anywhere in the UK and Ireland. The Pirates of Penzance will be the first Summer Youth Production to be staged since the Grand Opera House reopened following its stunning restoration, and it will be an incredible experience to rehearse and perform in this beautiful Theatre. No previous acting or singing experience is needed, and registration for anyone wanting to audition closes on 25 February, so make sure you don’t miss the boat!
“The Pirates of Penzance will be an all-singing, all-dancing extravaganza of exuberance that only young people can deliver. Laughter is guaranteed for those taking part and for audience members, so register to audition and book your seats today”.
The Pirates of Penzance is open to young people aged 10–18 years. The project will run from Sunday 10 to Sunday 24 July 2022 inclusive. First stage auditions will take place on Sunday 6 March 2022. Registration to audition is open now, and applications can be downloaded at www.goh.co.uk/creativelearning. The deadline to submit applications is Friday 25 February 2022.
Performances of The Pirates of Penzance will take place on Friday 22 July at 7.00pm, Saturday 23 July at 2.00pm and 7.00pm, and Sunday 24 July at 1.00pm. Tickets can be booked at goh.co.uk
