The East Bengal – Restaurant Review by The Gourmet Boys

The Newtownards Road has a number of popular Indian Restaurants, but our favourite is The East Bengal. The fairly compact lower floor has been cleverly reconfigured so that you feel perfectly safe and socially distanced, and there’s an upstairs seating area too for busier evenings.

We started with poppadoms and dips, and our waiter warned us that the freshly made warm chilli dip had quite a kick. We polished off every spicy drop!

We then ordered the mixed vegetarian platter, again, freshly made in house, and the garlic king prawns were sizzling and delicious-like an Indian slant on Gambas Pil Pil.

Our mains were a sweet and sour King Prawn Pathia and Tandoori Paneer-enormous chunks of squeaky, firm cottage cheese and vegetables, charred to perfection in a tandoor oven.
We finished our meal with a complimentary Sambucca (or two!!)

You are guaranteed a warm welcome on a chilly autumn evening at The East Bengal.
