Pizza Express, Ballyhackamore review by The Gourmet Boys

Honestly, it felt like Christmas had come early when Pizza Express, surely the best of the many nationwide Pizzerias available, finally reopened its doors after a lockdown longer than most restaurants, and how lovely to be welcomed by Michaela and Ross like old friends. We were delighted that most of our favourites were still on the menu, along with a few new ones, but old habits die hard and we ordered a bottle of Nero d’avola, with some marinated olives and slow roasted tomatoes while we made our choices.
For starters we had dough balls, bruschetta originale, calamari, and the new king prawn dish in a spicy garlic sauce. The prawns were lovely, but perhaps the sauce could have had more of a kick.
A variety of pizzas were ordered for mains, and we decided to try the new Vegan Mezze on a thin and crispy Romana base. Now as I’m sure you know, we’re not actually vegan so we asked for additional Mozzarella, but it would be equally delicious without as it’s packed full of flavour due to the roasted aubergine, peppadew chillis and lashings of houmous.
We were disappointed that the Dolcetti (mini desserts accompanied by tea or coffee) are not currently on the menu, but we were tempted by the tiramisu and the honeycomb cream slice.
