The Stena Line Belfast Giants came from behind to edge a 3-2 victory over the Cardiff Devils in the opening game of a weekend double header between the teams. Two power play goals from Mike Kompon and a goal from Adam Keefe was enough to take maximum points in this Elite League clash.

Despite early Giants pressure it was the Devils who got on the board first as Tyson Marsh opened the scoring with a pin point shot that found it’s way to the back of the cage to give the visitors the lead at the end of the opening period. The Giants were back on level terms early in the second as Mike Kompon netted his first of the evening on the powerplay, firing over the shoulder of British net minder Ben Bowns to level the score.

The Devils reinstated their lead with a powerplay goal of their own just ofter the mid point in the game as Jake Morisette netted for the visitors with a timely strike that put the Giants on the back foot for a time.

The final period was action packed and despite powerplay opportunities for both teams it was the Giants who took a strangle hold on the game. Captain Adam Keefe levelled the score at 47:02 setting the stage for Mike Kompon to net the game winner in the final minute.

Tomorrow night the teams face off again in what will inevitably be an action packed encounter. Tickets for the game are available to book through the Odyssey Arena Box Office (028 9073 9074) or online at Ticketmaster.
