The multi-award winning John Hewitt Bar and restaurant will be holding its fifth ‘Great Northern Irish Beer & Cider Festival during the first week in July( 1st to the 7th inclusive). The festival has grown from strength to strength and is still the only festival to celebrate and promote the wonderful artisan handcrafted beers and ciders exclusively sourced and brewed here in the North of Ireland. The Festival features beers from the oldest micro-brewery ‘Hilden’ to one of the newest which is ‘McGrath’s’ Premium Irish Ales & the largest which is the White water Brewing Company. We will also be offering some of the very best of local ciders using 100% Armagh apples all brewed with a passion for uncompromising quality and taste.
It has now become a tradition of the festival to be the launch pad and we are very excited about a new ale to be launched during the festival, but you will just have to wait and see.
Although the main aim of the festival is to promote the fantastic range of beers ales and ciders that are produced here, it is also a chance to hear the best of local talent with live music on each night of the festival. The Festival will be opened on Monday the 1st of July with our ever popular not to be missed ‘Monday Mic at The Hewitt’ a chance for you to perform live on the same stage that Mumford & Sons, Seasick Steve, and Gareth Dunlop have played on to name a few. The rest of the week will feature bands playing Blues Jazz and Traditional Irish Music, giving you a great excuse to “Wet your Whistle” not that you will need one. We finish of the week with a Sunday afternoon concert with the Legendry LEE ROGERS and a fantastic Bluegrass session on the Sunday night. There will be Free admission to all the live music events.
A New Art Exhibition will also be launched at the start of the festival. Local artist William Patton will have his work on show from Monday the 1st. of July until the end of the month.
