Run with the river in the Laganside 10k?

You may not have come up the Lagan in a bubble, but taking on the Laganside 10k could see you keeping pace with the famous river as it flows through south Belfast. The 2019 Laganside 10k will see 1500 runners take on the course on Sunday 1st September which starts in Ormeau Park, and takes in two laps of the Lagan Towpath and Ormeau Embankment.

This is the 13th year of the race, which is sponsored by Concentrix, Allstate, KRW Law and The Bar of Northern Ireland. Past races have seen some of the biggest names in athletics take part, including women’s marathon world record holder Paula Radcliffe, who took part last year. The 10k is organised by North Belfast Harriers, Ireland’s oldest athletics club, and they’re hoping this year’s race is the biggest and best yet.

Speaking at the launch, race director Matt Shields, from North Belfast Harriers, said:  “The Laganside 10k is growing every year, not just in numbers but also in the standard of athletes taking on the course. As a race where many participants are aiming for a personal best, you can easily find yourself keeping pace with elite athletes who have run, and won, marathons across globe and competed against the very best at Olympic and World Championships.

“As local runners, we know the pleasure of running alongside the river Lagan and I am calling on runners of all ages and abilities to sign up. We are delighted that Concentrix, Allstate, The Bar of Northern Ireland and KRW Law are supporting the 2019 Laganside 10k, and we hope to see plenty of people out cheering on the runners on the 1st September.”
