Stena Line Belfast Giants Get Fife Double Off To A Flyer

The Stena Line Belfast Giants sought revenge on Saturday night against the Fife Flyers after their loss to Nottingham the previous evening and the fans didn’t have to wait long to get out of their seats with three goals in the first period from Kompon, Brookwell and Lloyd. Fife pulled two back in the next forty minutes but Peacock and Shields struck one apiece to give the Giants a 5-2 victory leading into Sunday’s clash in Fife.

The Giants got off to a flying start with Mike Kompon scoring his 20th goal of the season at just 6:31. Shortly after, the home team doubled their lead when Cody Brookwell’s rebound came straight back to him and he defeated Kevin Regan by going five-hole. Outshooting the Flyers 14-4 in the first period, it was of no surprise when it became 3-0 at 17:46. The odd circumstances of the third goal saw Darryl Lloyd come out of the penalty box for a clearance to fall right at his feet which he then deked around the oncoming Regan and fired home.

The middle frame was a slightly different story with the teams splitting the goal celebrations. Ned Lukacevic pulled one back for the visitors on the powerplay after a pass across the crease from Matt Nickerson to make it 3-1. Both netminders were kept on their toes throughout the period but it was Craig Peacock who deservedly wrote his name on the scoresheet at 35:04 on the powerplay.

For the final twenty minutes the game appeared to slow down in comparison to the first forty, however Colin Shields was on hand at 55:15 to make make it five goals for the Giants. Fife didn’t take this lying down though, and with the very last touch of the puck Jamie Milam reduced the deficit to three goals.

Final Score:
Stena Line Belfast Giants 5-2 Fife Flyers

Diageo NI Man of the Match: 12 Ray Sawada
