There is no doubt that the food scene in Northern Ireland is rapidly evolving. That’s a good thing. With new, modern, contemporary street food-inspired restaurants popping up, there’s a growing trend of fusion cuisine and a diverse mix of international tastes that are changing our taste buds – for the better.
Roasted & Toasted is a new and innovative restaurant brand that has just launched its first store in Belfast and with it brings delicious, modern street food that is inspired by the London street food scene and the gourmet food trucks of LA and San Francisco.
The company, operated by owners Chris Lynch and Peter Waddell is expected to generate over 50 jobs in the next two years and have plans to expand to Dublin and London within three years of trading.
Roasted & Toasted is street food café/restaurant nestled in the heart of Botanic Avenue amongst some of the other leading established eateries already in the area.
Founder Chris Lynch comments on the move: “The emergence of other quirky restaurants such as Boojum, Bao, Slums and Kurrito show that there’s a real appetite for street food. Peoples’ tastes are changing and there’s a visible shift away from the standard sandwich bar or run-of-the-mill restaurant that we have all known and loved for many years. With trendy video virals of mouth-watering food flooding our social media feeds, customers are quickly becoming educated as to the other flavours and culinary experiences out there and that is without doubt helping Northern Ireland catch up with our London and other international counterparts.”
The store is the first in Belfast to offer open-decks and is currently inviting DJ’s to spin a few tunes where they will have an opportunity to get some free grub in return (providing they keep the punters happy of course!). There will be various events throughout the week that will see DJ’s perform a range of laid back, funky vibes from soulful house to jazz / nu-jazz and other eclectic beats.
Roasted & Toasted will also be collaborating with local business Belfast Underground Records as it plans to stream live broadcasts on its recently established radio TV.
The ‘Brick Lane Breakfast’ which is one of the signature menu items is essentially a gourmet fry in between two slices of toasted Yellow Door sourdough and has maple cure bacon, ‘Scullery Made’ chilli and cocoa lava pudding, ‘Ormo’ potato bread and soft cooked egg. Other items to definitely check out are the ‘Glen Miller’ for lunch – a slow roasted pulled pork sandwich on a toasted Yellow Door buttermilk bap with garlic aioli and spiced apple chutney or if you’re after something sweet, their homemade signature toasted marshmallow hot chocolate is made with award winning CoCouture chocolate and toasted with a blow torch!
Roasted & Toasted is open 7 days a week from 7.30am most days and showcases some of Northern Ireland’s greatest artisanal brands from Yellow Door, Draynes Farm, Scullery Made and many more..
