Punk is back at the QFT

The Outcasts

The Outcasts

An exclusive showing of “Outcasts by Choice” as part of Hijack! QFT Mixtape Vol. 1 will celebrate the 40th anniversary of punk and follow The Outcasts, Belfast’s original punk sons, on their recent journey back on the road.

The documentary showcases the band’s return to the road across Europe as they continue to bring the halcyon sound of days not forgotten to their fans, or ‘Locusts’, and will be showing at the QFT on Saturday, July 8th at 7:25pm.

Belfast’s own legendary punk outfit was formed in 1977 when three brothers and a friend rejected the status quo and offered a “night off from the Troubles” for anyone who wanted to let loose to a unique sound that has proven a hit with music fans around the world.

Dubbed ‘the band you love to hate’ by the local press due to their bad boy image and loutish behaviour, the band were pivotal in the development of the new youth movement happening in the city throughout the late 70s.

Lead singer and bassist, Greg Cowan, said:

“When we formed, Belfast was a dark place and The Outcasts was all about bringing communities together to celebrate a love of punk and for everyone to let their hair down with not a care in the world. We are delighted that our latest tour has been chronicled so well and we look forward to bringing it to the QFT for all our music fans to enjoy.”
