Funds will provide education and training for palliative care nurses
Northern Ireland Hospice has welcomed an £86k donation from the Benevolent Fund of Nurses in Northern Ireland (BFNNI), an organisation founded in 1968 to provide support to retired nurses.
The donation will support education and training packages for Hospice Nurses in line with advances in palliative care nursing practice and will be known as the Abercorn Benevolent Fund in honour of Lady Moyra Campbell, patron and daughter of the dowager, Duchess of Abercorn.
NI Hospice CEO Heather Weir said: “NI Hospice nurses care for 3,000 children and adults each year across Northern Ireland. Thanks to the generosity of this donation, NI Hospice nurses will be supported in the advancement of palliative nursing practice.
“The fund will be used to deliver bespoke education and training packages, support individual or groups of nurses in the pursuit of excellence in palliative care, and provide financial assistance for learning travel scholarships which will support knowledge transfer in nursing practice.
“We are especially thankful for this donation as NI Hospice nurse education is not financially supported through mainstream nurse education commissioning.”
The Benevolent Fund for Nurses in Northern Ireland said: “It is with great pride and pleasure that The Benevolent Fund for Nurses in Northern Ireland is able to make this donation to NI Hospice, an organisation that delivers the highest level of palliative nursing care.
“NI Hospice is a world leader in palliative nursing education and we are pleased that a legacy of The Benevolent Fund for Nurses in Northern Ireland will ensure the development of future nurses.”
