NHS workers win £35,000 Cash Call

A family of NHS workers have won the biggest ever cash prize to be won on Northern Ireland radio!

Sammy and her husband Terry both work at the Ulster Hospital in Dundonald and are parents to three young children under the age of 7, they entered the Downtown / Cool FM Cash Call competition earlier this week after hearing that the prize value would be the biggest ever single cash giveaway in Northern Ireland radio history – a massive £35,000!

Speaking afterwards about her win the Mum of three said “when the phone rang and the voice said it was John Kearns – I didn’t believe it was real, I thought someone was winding me up, then I calmed down and confirmed the Cash Call amount and could hardly speak whenever he told me I had won the £35,000 – things like this don’t happen to us!”

“This means everything to our family at the moment, we’ve been working really long hours recently and have been finding things really tough like so many other people lately, so this money couldn’t have come at a better time, it really has made our entire year – thanks to Downtown and Cool FM”

Sammy who was celebrating in the sunshine with her sister Nadine has now started to think about how she might spend her new found fortune, “I’ve always wanted to take the kids to Disneyland in France, so we will definitely do that whenever things go back to normal, I’ve also been meaning to do some home renovations for a long time and will finally be able to do this and clear all our bills too”

Downtown / Cool FM Programme Director Stuart Robinson commented “it is truly poetic that our biggest ever cash prize has gone to a hardworking NHS family in Northern Ireland – exactly 10 weeks on from the start of the national ‘clap for carers’ campaign – it seems poignant that Sammy and Terry answered this particular Cash Call”.

Stuart added “Cash Call has paid out more than £1 million to lucky winners in the past year and has become the most talked about thing on the radio in Northern Ireland, we know people have been struggling lately and we wanted to do something a bit special by offering up the single biggest cash prize that has ever been given away on radio here – and we couldn’t be more delighted that its been scooped by this amazing family”.

The record £35,000 Cash Call coincided with recent audience figures which saw Cool FM surpass BBC Radio Ulster as the Number 1 radio station in Northern Ireland for the first time ever.

Cash Call returns to Downtown/ Cool FM soon with daily pots of money to be won every weekday in June
