Performance Poet and Stand-Up Comedian, Alice McCullough and songwriter, musician and comedian, Ursula Burns, are the latest in home-grown talent to represent the arts and culture of Northern Ireland in Europe as part of the Arts Council of Northern Ireland’s Brussels Platform.  On Friday 18th September, as thousands of people take to the streets of Belfast to enjoy Culture Night, these two artists will perform in Brussels, highlighting the value of the arts to the people of Belfast and showcasing the talent we have in the region.

The Belfast based artists have combined their talents to produce a captivating performance of live music and spoken word which will take place at the Northern Ireland Executive Office.

The award-winning, Alice McCullough, will perform her critically acclaimed one-woman show, ‘Earth To Alice’, taking her poems far from the page and onto the stage as she plays with the boundaries between spoken word, stand-up, storytelling and theatre.

A winner in the Irish Musical Comedy Awards in 2012, harpist, Ursula Burns, will perform a series of self-penned tracks which she has independently released over four albums.

Hosted by the Northern Ireland Executive Office in Brussels, the event will attract an audience that includes MEPs and key opinion formers amongst EU representatives and is the latest in the Brussels Platform series.   A collaboration between the Arts Council of Northern Ireland and the Northern Ireland Executive Office, the Brussels Platform aims to promote the culture and creativity of Northern Ireland in Europe.

Roisin McDonough, Chief Executive, Arts Council of Northern Ireland, said: “Both Ursula Burns and Alice McCullough are wonderful ambassadors to showcase the spirit of Culture Night Belfast to the audience at Brussels.  The Brussels Platform is all about providing a stage for our local musicians, writers, dancers, theatre practitioners and visual artists to showcase their immense talent and to convey the culture and creativity that is inherent to Northern Ireland. ”

Gerry Mulligan, Head of Office in Brussels, added: “The Brussels Platform continues to provide the ideal opportunity to showcase our talent on a European stage and to highlight the region’s ever growing reputation as a centre of excellence in the arts. I look forward to welcoming Alice and Ursula to Brussels to share the spirit of Culture Night as thousands of people across Belfast come together to enjoy everything the arts have to offer.”

Culture Night Brussels takes place at 6.30pm on Friday 18th September at the Northern Ireland Executive Office.   Keep up to date with Alice and Ursula at www.deepinthedreaming.co.uk and www.facebook.com/earthtoalice
