Belfast Lord Mayor, Councillor Deirdre Hargey, joined local business people at the launch of the Halloween Pumpkin Festival set for Andersonstown on Saturday, the 27th of October.

The family friendly event is part of the West£pend campaign, supported by Belfast City Council.

Activities will be taking place primarily at the Busybee Area of Andersonstown with a Halloween Kids’ Disco and a Halloween movie screening at the Wolf and Whistle on the Andersonstown Road.

Lord Mayor Deirdre Hargey said:

“Belfast City Council is delighted to be backing the West£pend campaign to encourage more shoppers into the Andersonstown area through events such as the Halloween Pumpkin Festival.

“Families are the heart of a community and it is important they get opportunities to support local businesses and what better way than creating a fun relaxed occasion which offers a reminder of the attraction of shopping locally.

“It is also a way of attracting new visitors to the area.

“The challenge of carving pumpkins is, I am sure, one that will encourage some healthy competition among friends and families and the great thing is you will have something to take home – on top of all the bargains you might discover among the Andersonstown shops.

“I look forward to seeing you there,” added the Lord Mayor.
